List of SAOT members as at 01 April 2007

Ordinary Membership

Criteria for Ordinary Membership:  

  • A graduate from a WFOT-accredited occupational therapy program and resident of Singapore, if not currently working as an occupational therapist in Singapore.
  • A graduate from non WFOT-accredited occupational therapy programs has to pass the Qualifying Examinations for foreign-trained occupational therapists and currently working as an occupational therapist in Singapore.

 Membership Fee Per Annum:

$80 per annum for renewing members;

$100 per annum for new/lapsed members (inclusive of a one-time (re)joining fee of $20).

A 3-year membership package is also available at a rate of $230 for renewing members and $250 for new/lapsed members.

Membership Period:

For a renewing member, membership period starts from the date that the previous membership period ended.

For a new/lapsed member, membership period starts from the month that he/she signs up.

Lapse Of Membership:

Membership is considered lapsed if a member fails to renew his/her membership within 3 months of expiry of membership period.

Membership Privileges:

Voting rights;

  • Information through electronic means and Communique;
  • Eligibility to apply for SAOT research grant (Refer to guidelines);
  • Subsidized rates for courses and events organized / supported by SAOT;
  • Access to classified information, upon approval from the SAOT council;
  • Eligibility for any other privileges that SAOT has with other organizations and national associations.

Note:

Courses organized by Social Service Training Institute (SSTI) of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) are available to SAOT members at members’ rate.

Some Australian courses are available to SAOT members at members’ rate.

Student Membership

Criteria for Student Membership:

Full time occupational therapy students of schools accredited by WFOT, at undergraduate level

Upon graduation from a Diploma or Bachelor OT program, whichever is earlier, the graduate is no longer eligible for student membership. The graduate can then sign up as an ordinary member if the criteria are fulfilled.

A new graduate, when applying for ordinary membership, is considered a renewing member if he/she was a student member immediately before graduation and if he/she signs up within 3 months of graduation.

Student Membership Fee Per Annum:

$14 per annum. The fee will be adjusted to $20 per annum effective 1 June 2006.

A 3 or 4-year student membership package is also available to the 1 st year students who opt to sign up for the whole duration of their 3 or 4-year course at the beginning of the course at a rate of $50 or $70 respectively.

Student Membership Period:

Membership period for student members follows the academic year.

Student Membership Privileges:  

  • Eligibility to vote for SAOT student executive committee members;
  • Information through electronic means and Communique;
  • Subsidized rates for courses and events organized / supported by SAOT;
  • Publication in SAOT website, subject to the council's approval.

Renewing members do not need to re-submit a copy of their OT academic qualifications (if this has already been submitted before).

 

WFOT Membership

WFOT Membership is due in January every year. For SAOT members who would like to subscribe to WFOT as individual members, please attach a cheque of $30, made payable to “SAOT”, indicate “WFOT” on the back of the cheque and mail it to the same address as given above.

WFOT members can expect the following benefits:

  • Twice-yearly WFOT bulletins;
  • Interaction amongst OTs internationally and the opportunity to develop international networks;
  • Eligibility to apply for research awards;
  • Occupational Therapists International Network website (OTION).

Please Take Note

The SAOT Council reserves the right to approve/reject any membership application and to terminate any existing membership.

The membership fees are subject to changes on approval by the SAOT Council and members.
